War Horse by Michael Morpurgo
War Horse is about a horse named Joey. Joey was bought by a man who had a son named Albert. Albert's father got drunk a lot, and he didn't really care for the horse, so Albert decided to take responsibility for Joey. They were very good friends, but one day, Albert's father sold Joey to a military officer. Joey was taken away and trained to be a war horse [in World War I], and Albert decided to join the army to see if he could find Joey.
