Simple Sentences and Sentence Combining

Sometimes you want a two word sentence to add variety, but if all your sentences were two words each, your writing would sound immature.
Sally runs.  Spot barks.  Jane jumps.  Mom frowns.

If you have too many short sentences, you can combine some of them.

Sample two-word sentences from novels:

Models:
Ingrid awoke.
Ingrid nodded.
Ingrid knew.
--- Peter Abrahams, Down the Rabbit Hole (2006)

Combined:  As Ingrid awoke she nodded because she knew.

For each of the following sets of sentences, combine the two, adding only one word.  Try to add a different word for each set.
 Either sentence can come first.
Capitalize and punctuate your resulting sentence properly.

Set A. Combine these two simple sentences into one sentence:
1.  Joe skis.
2.  Jill swims.

Set B. Combine these two simple sentences into one sentence:
1. Girls laugh.
2. Boys blush.

Set C. Combine these two simple sentences into one sentence:
1.  Students sluff.
2.  Teachers notice.

Set D. Combine these two simple sentences into one sentence:
1.  Roads ice up.
2.  Cars slide.
