Formula for In text citations: Introduce+Give+Cite=In-text Citations
Examples: Ponyboy Curtis has testified, "The blue Mustang was circling the park slowly. Johnny swore under his breath, and I muttered, 'What do they want?'" (54).
After the blue Mustang showed up, Johnny Cade said, "I don't know. But I bet they're looking for us. We picked up their girls" (54).

1. Words or phrases to help you introduce a quote:

  1. The author states,
  2. According to (Name of person who said it)
  3. (Name) explains . . . (or) reports. . . .
Example: Thomas Edison states,Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up" (8).
2. How to give a quote:

  1. Place a comma after you introduce the author.
  2. Place the quote in quotation marks “ ”

Thomas Edison declares,Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave  up" (8).
3. How to cite a quote:
  1. After the last quotation mark, press the spacebar, and place the  page number you found it on  in the parenthesis (). (or the author of the articles last name, if you are writing from an article).
Thomas Edison, “Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up" (8).
