 Announcements and Reminders: 
  • If you have not yet  handed in your December Book Assignment, hand it in TODAY.
  • Hand in your hall passes if you are ready to not use any more.  
  • If you were not here to take the post test on writing paragraphs, please see me. 
  • Tape the essay grading into your composition book, if you have not yet done that. 
  • Do not forget to complete your spelling make-up assignment if you have one.
  • Today we will be taking a retake on the central idea test.
  • When you are finished with your test, please quietly read or work on your spelling or another assignment.
  • This term ends on Monday!
  • There will be no cave time intervention today.  If you have an F, turn in your book assignment(s)!

Now Investigating:  Conventions in Sentences Investigation

   
Copy this sentence into your composition book.  Be prepared to share what you notice about it. 


Keith, the boy in rumpled shorts and shirt, did not know he was

Notice everything you can about the above sentence. 
No more tickets for capital letters at the beginning of the sentence 
or periods at the end. 
It is a correct sentence (I hope), so you are not looking for errors (I hope). 



3. About reading a test that includes a passage for you to read:
  • Read slowly.
  • Read carefully.
  • Read the directions. Pay close attention to what you are being asked to do. 
  • Read through the questions before you read the passage.
  • Then carefully and completely read the passage.
  • Then answer the questions. 
  • Reread as much as you need to.  
  • When looking for the central idea of the whole passage, look for what the whole passage is talking about.  Which central idea choice will cover the whole essay. 
  • Look for the evidence for your answers.  When asked questions about details, scan the passage for words from the question.
