Remember: Do not use Wikipedia or ask and answer sites.  Do not use blogs.  Use reliable sources for true, factual information.
Be careful not to use sites that are just telling you about the fictional story and characters.         Look up information in  NONFICTION sources.
See the grading guide on your handout, and make sure you meet the requirements.

The main character and her friends are part of the ATA, the Air Transport Authority.
“The ATA carried out the delivery of aircraft from the factories to the RAF, thus relieving countless numbers of RAF pilots for duty in the battle.”   Out of the 1,300 members of the ATA, 166 were women.

One of the girls crashes and the mechanic thinks she may have tried to knock a "doodlebug," a flying bomb out of the air.
In June 1944 the first flying bombs fell on London; they were usually called 'buzz-bombs' or 'doodle-bugs'. It was not clear what they were at first, as they were obviously not dropped from a plane. Then it was understood that they were in effect self-propelled pilotless aircraft, which when they reached their maximum range would crash with their explosive load.

The girl who died may have tried to ram the flying bomb, and another Felicyta explains what that is called.  "In Polish we call it taran -- aerial ramming."
Aerial ramming or air ramming is the ramming of one aircraft with another. It is a last-ditch tactic in air combat, sometimes used when all else has failed.
". . . . in the early stages of World War II the tactic was employed by Soviet pilots who called it taran for "battering ram"; the same word is used in the Czech, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian and Bulgarian languages."
