Announcements and Reminders:

If you were not here to receive the assignment for our

April/May book assessment, pick up the handout from the

handouts file at the front of the room. See the tab above

for Required Reading for more information.

If you need to make up the district writing test, plan on a

day after school.  Let me know when you can stay for

about 45 minutes or so.

Please finish and hand in your magical study guide.

If you have not finished the SAGE test, come to

Cave Time.

Today while students are called up to present their March book assignment, the rest will be completing the following assignments:

1. Journal-Write:  (in your composition book or on a sheet of lined paper)
Which is more important: freedom or security?  In other words, would you rather give up freedoms to be safe, or give up safety to be free?  (Write at least half a page.)
A few examples to get you thinking:

  • We fence off canals and rivers to keep people to keep people from drowning, but we aren't free to get to them for fishing or swimming.
  • We have speed limit laws and seat belt laws and helmet laws for motorcyclists.
  • We go through security checks at airports.
  • American Fork has a curfew so kids can't stay out late without having an adult with them.
  • Your parents make and enforce rules you must follow because they want to keep you safe.

2. The Giver -- Read and answer questions. (Get as far as you can, finishing chapter 1, and reading chapters 2.)
