Announcements and Reminders:
The Michael Vey Assembly is today during Cave Time.  There will be no cave time in Ms. Dorsey's room. Come at the very first of cave time if your grade is up but the slip doesn't show it, and I will sign your slip.

If you haven't, get your November Book Assessment done or revised and your yellow packet handed in.  You already received a grading sheet twice.  If you still need one, please print this: November Bk of Mon Directions.doc

Are you working on your Letter About Literature letter for the December Book Assessment -- due January 7?

Samples for Letters About Literature/ December Book Assignment

    • It is not a summary.  The author already knows the story.
    • Correspond, don’t compliment! Your letter should inform rather than flatter the author. All FAN letters will be eliminated!
    • See the tab above for required reading if you've lost your  pink packet.

If you need to make-up spelling, here is the document (or pick up the pink slips in the handout box):

2.  More on Themes:  Themes in songs

On a blank sheet of papter, label the page:  Themes in Songs

Decide with your partner on one or two themes from each song.
Be ready to show lines in the lyrics that are evidence of the a theme.
Write the song title and the theme and evidence on that sheet with both of your names.  Hand it in to the top wire basket when I tell you to -- after we have worked on three songs.

Extra credit opportunity:
Bring in printed song lyrics labeled with a theme that fits the song.

3.  Sentence Contest
You will work with a partner.
Write a sentence that uses a series of adjectives BEFORE a noun.  You will write it very legibly on one of the small whiteboards.
Example of a sentence with a series of adjective BEFORE the noun:

I experienced a miserable, long, unhappy night.

Make it a complete, correct sentence.

Ms. Dorsey will roll the dice to determine how many adjectives you should use and what letter they should begin with.

Check your adjectives with the "and" test, and with the reversal test.

If you were absent:
Read for 20 minutes at home, recording the title, a brief summary of what you read, the pages you read, and including a parent signature.

Watch/listen to  the videos for the songs and  record themes and proof of themes.

Write at least one sentence using a series of adjective that come BEFORE a noun.  See the instructions above.  Roll a dice for the number of adjectives.

Adjectives: Equal (Coordinate) or Not?
