Are you working on your Letter About Literature letter for the December Book Assessment -- due January 7?

Samples for Letters About Literature/ December Book Assignment

    • It is not a summary.  The author already knows the story.
    • Correspond, don’t compliment! Your letter should inform rather than flatter the author. All FAN letters will be eliminated!
    • See the tab above for required reading if you've lost your  pink packet.

1. Individual Reading -- reading your Science Fiction or Fantasy book -- and filling out your reading log.

2. For B5, B6,  B7, and B8, we will have some time in the computer lab to finish up the November Book Assessment or work on the TV essay.

3. Write Santa Letters for Macy's Believe Campaign for the Make-A-Wish Foundation
Optional:  Up to ten points of extra credit is available if you write a persuasive letter,
either convincing Santa that you belong on the "Nice List,"  not on the naughty list.
Only one letter will receive extra credit.
That letter would need to include:
  • A claim

  • Three reasons with details and
warrants (explanations) as to why

you are indeed NICE!
  • A conclusion.

or
Write a persuasive letter to Santa, convincing him to give something to someone other than yourself.  Include at least three reasons with explanations as to why your reasons show he should give this gift.

Each letter should fill at least one side of the page you are given. Write neatly and edit carefully.
Do not just goof off.  That will not count.

Additional letters will be welcome!

Hand in your letter by this Friday.

Your letters could be "what I want for Christmas letters," or thank you letters to Santa, or other letters appropriate to send to Santa.
Write as many as you wish.  I wonder which class will write the most?
All letters must be legible and show honest effort.

Please hand in these letters and other  letters for this fundraiser by this Friday, December 6.  We will be collecting more later, but are trying to collect as many as we can in this batch.

If you were absent:
Complete make-up reading for the twenty minutes you missed in class.
Finish your November Book Assessment if you have not.  Turn in the yellow packet when you have.  If you have lost your packet, here are the pages:
If you'd like to do the extra credit, or just contribute to a great cause, pick up the papers for Letters to Santa.
