Announcements and Reminders for Thursday/Friday, September 14/15, 2017:

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be tonight, September 14.  Ms. Dorsey will be available from 3:30 to 6:15.

Remember to find a book for your Book-of-the-Month assignment, and read!  



September/October  Book Project: 
Students will be graded on the completion of the book and their ability to discuss their novel in depth. 
Students need to be prepared to discuss several topics:
*summary of the book read  -- leaving out spoilers
*ranking it on a scale of 1-10 and  explaining why
* particular elements or aspects of literature that we are learning about in class
Where to find books:  school media center, classroom library, your home library, A.F. Library – or others, bookstores and used-book dealers, other stores. garage sales.

This week in Cavetime Tues/Wed/Thurs you will be able to write or finish your Argument Essay Pretest.  
We will meet in Lab 202 -- next to Mr. Gillis' room.  
There will be no cavetime with Ms. Dorsey on Friday.  
It will be a seventh grade assembly.


If you will be absent next week for the spelling tests, you may take them ahead of time during cavetime, Wednesday or Thursday.   Please study first!

1.  CSI Sentence

Conventions in Sentences Investigations 
Copy these sentences into your composition book under 
CSI Sentences/Grammar.  Page 83/84 +
Label this CSI #5 and add today's date. 

“All Socs aren’t like that,” she said.  “You have to believe me, Ponyboy.  Not all of us are like that” (Hinton 34).

Write down three or more things you notice about the sentences (English class things such as punctuation, spelling, parts of speech, sentence type, etc.  The sentences are correct – no errors in it, I hope.)

3. Reading The Outsiders -- 
Continue to work on filling out your character "chart" in your composition book on page 33+, if you find out more about characters. 

Read together -- Chapter 2, beginning at page 31 after the page break.
Ponyboy and Cherry are waiting in line at the concession stand, and Ponyboy is telling Cherry about when Johnny was beaten up by the Socs.  (Pronounce it "soshes" with a long "o."  It's short for social. )
