Announcements and Reminders:                                                                   Reminders of Emergency Procedures --  Join your A1 class on the playing fields.  Be prepared to take the Comma Test and Words Parts Test today. Word Parts 2015-2016 Using Commas For the comma test,  especially look back at the rules about *when you name a person using just one name:          My best friend Sylvia is visiting in town. *when you are using quotation marks *for an indirect quote           Sylvia said that I'm not her best friend. *place names  *introductory phrases or clauses If you did not turn in your book of the month assignment last time, turn it in today. Targets for Today: 1. I can determine the meaning of unknown words using context and word parts. State Core, Language, Standard 4, 5b 3. I can recognize the theme  (main point) of a piece of literature (poem). State Core, Reading Literature, Standard 2 4. I know the meanings of frequently used word parts. State Core, Language, Standard 4b 5.  I know and can apply several rules for using commas.  Language, standard 7.2

Today’s  Agenda: B-Day Classes Turn in your book project if you haven't yet. Also turn in the paper you filled out as you discussed your book with the other students. 1. Study comma rules and word parts. 2. Poem  Loveliest of Trees 3.  Tests Word Parts Test           Comma Test                     4. Context Clues Lesson B5 through "Ben. . . . . "  and copied types of context clues.  Needs video? B6  copied context clues  watched video  worked through B7 through "look out window"    Still need to copy types of clues A1- 1. Pick up your pink comma review packets and spend a few minutes studying.
