A Wish for a Friend
Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours—
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!

Irish jokes:

1.  Did you know that Jimmy-Joe acquired an injury whilst tap dancing? He broke his ankle when he fell into the sink.

2.      Jimmy-Joe went to a pet shop and asked how many budgies were in stock.
"We have ninety-nine," replied the shop owner.
"Give us the lot," said the Jimmy-Joe, paid for them and left. He went to a tailor's shop and had ninety-nine pockets sewn into a jacket, put a budgie in each pocket, went up to the Post Office Tower and jumped off.

He hit the ground with an almighty smack and lay there groaning until a passer-by came and asked him what had happened.
"I don't know, Sur," he replied, "but that's the last time I try that budgie jumping!"

Announcements and Reminders:
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
Tomorrow I will (hopefully) be in Computer Lab 211 for CaveTime for anyone who has an D or F and needs to finish up your brochure.

Important:
This Friday, we will take the post-test for the district writing test.
Next week on Tuesday and Thursday we will take the State Core (SAGE) writing tests on argument and on informational writing.
Come to school well-rested and having eaten well.
Try very hard not to miss those days.

Today’s Agenda:
1. Individual Reading (10 to 15 minutes)
If you have lost your assignment sheet and sheet of questions for the March Book of the Month Assignment, see the Required Reading tab above. You can download those papers from there -- or here: March Book Assessment 2014.docExamples for the book project:  Your March Book Project

2.  What is an INFORMATIONAL essay?
      a. Informational vs. Argument?  -- See sample organizers.
      b.  Look at a couple of informative essays:
               Informational Writing
               Pigs!  not B2

      c.  Informative can teach about a subject and REFLECT on that subject, including your own thinking.
For example, your essay about the Gettysburg Address is supposed to focus on how you feel it applies and can help us today (in our time).  You will need to INFORM your reader of some things about the Address, including some of the things it says and perhaps a little background, but mostly you are reflecting on how WE can use the ideas in it to make our lives and our world better.

3.  Revising and Editing for Informational Writing   pages 20-22

4.  Finish writing your essay. If you do not finish it in class, take it home to finish it.
