Announcements and Reminders Tuesday/Wednesday, April 16/17, 2019:

The 18th is Poem in National Poem in My Pocket Day!
Bring a poem in your pocket for some extra credit from Ms. Dorsey -- April 18 and 19.

Targets for Today:

I can prepare for a debate, using information from the novel The Giver, using careful reasoning, and working cooperatively with a partner.

Today’s  Agenda Tuesday/Wednesday, April 16/17, 2019:

Turn in your tri-panel assignment.
Prepare for the debate (final assessment for The Giver)
Debate Teams, Partners, and Questions were assigned.
It is 5 years after Jonas has left the Community. We are the council of Elders, and we have to
decide whether to keep the memories or to choose a new Receiver. You are going
to work with a partner to write a statement for your team that answers one of the
questions in the debate. The teacher will assign you your team, your partner, and
your question. When you hear your assignment, one of the partners will come and
pick up your question, and you will stand together at the back of the room. The
New Receiver team will be on the left side, and the Keep the Memories team will
be on the right side.

Partners wrote Statements.
For the statement you will write,  look at your
question.  There are 2 bullet points. You and your partner will both answer
the first bullet point on your own papers. The second bullet point asks you to
write a one-paragraph statement for the debate. You and your partner will work

on this together.

When you are finished, make sure your names are on your papers and staple your and

your partner’s papers together before turning them in.

Tableaux  -- Students presented tableaux based and scenes from The Giver, and inferred what the other groups were implying with their tableaux.

If You Were Absent:
