Announcements and Reminders:

Happy Earth Day! 
April 22, 2019

  •     April 23 and 24  - Alpine Days  -- Track and Field at MVHS
  •    Our ELA Rise Test will be on May 2-3 and 6-7. 
  •    On Monday, May 6, we will go to a different lunch schedule for Mondays.  Lunch for all will be at 1:15.                    

Targets for Today:

I know how to navigate the RISE State Test, and can show what I know about reading informational texts. 

I can select a book for a book group. 


Today’s  Agenda:

B5 -- Please complete the evaluation for Mrs. Hilton.  Hand it in.

Pull out your composition book -- for the testing ticket. 
Write down your computer number.

Take your testing ticket and a pencil to lab 205.
Sit in your assigned seat.

Take a benchmark test to practice for the state testing and to help us know what we need to review before the test.
Informational Reading 

Scoring: 
4 points: appropriate behavior during and after testing, following instructions after. 
3 points: appropriate behavior during testing, quiet after but not following directions. 
2 points: disruptive after. 
1 point: disruptive during 
None of the above scores may be made up. 
0 points: absent -- may make up points by arranging a time to take the test.

Test-taking hints:  
  • Carefully read the directions. 
  • Read the passages provided -- use both skim and scan and careful reading.  (Consider the time you have for testing.)  
  • Read the questions, including directions all the answers.  
  • After you have answered all of the questions, review your answers before you end the test.  

After the test -- All classes:  
1. Pick a book for book groups.  
Go to Canvas:  "Pick a Book for Book Groups" 
Read/Listen/View, and then using the text box provided, list the books in order for the ones you would most like to read.  
You need to click on "Submit Assignment" to open the text box. 
 If you don't have time after the test, do this as homework. 

2. If you still have time,  start writing your reflection on The Giver/What Makes Life Meaningful?
