You have a new assignment on CANVAS to write
a set of Text Messages from one Outsiders character to another.

You will select one scene and imagine that a character could text another character about what's going on.  Complete this and turn it in by Thanksgiving Break.  You will use a  Fake Text Message Generator and turn it in on CANVAS.  After you write your text messages, CREATE IMAGE, the DOWNLOAD image, save to folder,  attach to the assignment, and submit the assignment.
Also, on Canvas, answer these questions:  What do you know about the parts of an argument essay?  What makes a good argument?  What makes an effective argument essay? You need to click on the bar for submitting the assignment before your text box will appear.

Reread your choice of a book (or book series) that has had an impact on you.
You will write a letter to the author of the book you read about how the book has affected you -- as part of the Letters About Literature contest.
If you can't think of a book to use, see me.
We will work together in class on how to write an effective letter.
Your finished letter is due by December 11.

Letters About Literature 2: Introduction to Letters About Literature

This segment introduces students to the Letters About Literature program and the structure of the letter for the competition.
One of my all-time favorite series is The Lord of the Rings.
Reading it taught me that even the "little guy" -- a seemingly unimportant person --
can help others in important ways.
Also, I learned that we can get through terrible experiences if we just keep going
-- just taking one step at a time., and remembering why we are doing it.
4.  Lesson about Writing Argument

B8 did the reading instead of the argument writing lesson.
5. If time left, read The Outsiders and answer your packet questions.   The books DO NOT go home.  You could work on this at home if you get behind using this link:

Example paragraphs:

1.    "A dog is man's best friend." That common saying may contain some truth, but dogs are not the only animal friend whose companionship people enjoy. For many people, a cat is their best friend. Despite what dog lovers may believe, cats make excellent housepets as they are good companions, they are civilized members of the household, and they are easy to care for.

2.    Cats are low maintenance, civilized companions. People who have small living quarters or less time for pet care should appreciate these characteristics of cats. However, many people who have plenty of space and time still opt to have a cat because they love the cat personality. In many ways, cats are the ideal house pet.

3.    One of the most attractive features of cats as housepets is their ease of care. Cats do not have to be walked. They get plenty of exercise in the house as they play, and they do their business in the litter box. Cleaning a litter box is a quick, painless procedure. Cats also take care of their own grooming. Bathing a cat is almost never necessary because under ordinary circumstances cats clean themselves. Cats are more particular about personal cleanliness than people are. In addition, cats can be left home alone for a few hours without fear. Unlike some pets, most cats will not destroy the furnishings when left alone. They are content to go about their usual activities until their owners return.

4.    Cats do have claws, and owners must make provision for this. A tall scratching post in a favorite cat area of the house will often keep the cat content to leave the furniture alone. As a last resort, of course, cats can be declawed.

5.    [Exit Ticket]: Furthermore, through donation someone can save up to 8 lives, and this makes them a legend even after death. When a person decides to donate their functional body parts to other people waiting for organ implants, the parts can be used to save life of up to 8 people. This means that the donor will be among the people fighting to reduce the high number of deaths that occur to people waiting for an implant. This is a real way of being a superhero to people in danger!
