Targets for Today:

I can read an informative article, think about it,  and answer questions about it.
I can show what I know about central idea and about writing argument.
I can listen to and enjoy a short story.

Today’s  Agenda:

Hand in your disclosure document signatures (with the VIP form on the back filled out) and your composition book (with your name and period on the front -- no spiral bound notebooks, please), if you have brought them today.

1. Pick up the article about bullies and popular kids.  Read it, answer the questions, and after the last question, write an answer to this question:
Did this article surprise you?  Why or why not?  Please explain.

2.    Take pretests about central idea and about writing argument.

3.   Read a short story.
A1:  Seventh Grade by Gary Soto (Will  need to finish.)
A2, B5, B7:  Priscilla and the Wimps by Richard Peck

Richard Peck and Ms. Dorsey!

If You Were Absent:

See above.

Vocabulary:
Central Idea:   central idea is a main point that the author is making (also called a main idea or a key idea). In other words, a central idea is what the piece of writing (usually referring to nonfiction) is mostly about. --    https://cdn-scope.scholastic.com/sites/default/files/SCOPE-090114-CoreSkillReference-CentralIdeas_0.pdf

It will be stated as a complete sentence.  If the author does not state it as a complete sentence, then the reader will infer what it is based on evidence from the text, and will put that thought into a complete sentence.
