were/we're, then/than

7. were/we’re/where
We were happy to see you.
We’re going to lunch.
Where is he?

I was.  We were.   ("Were" is the past tense of "was.")
We're happy. = We are happy.    (This is a contraction.  The apostrophe takes the place of the space and the "a." )
Where is he?  He is here.   (The word "here" is in the word "there."  Both refer to place.)

8. then/than
First we ate, then we played outside.
I like dark chocolate better than milk chocolate.

The story gave a beginning and a middle.
Then came the end.      (This word shows time order.)

Joe is taller than Ann.   (This word compares.)
