Announcements and Reminders:

B6, please scoot your desks back about two feet.




If you have not finished the SAGE Test, . . . 
  Lab 211 will be available during Cavetime.
Those B-Day students who have not finished will be able to finish next Tuesday during English class.

         P/T Conference is today, February 12, 3:30-7:30 pm.  Parents can visit teachers in their classrooms.
        7th Grade Students will receive 8th Grade Registration Information in their                                  English Classes on February 26 and 27th.    
                        One possibility for an elective is to work as a student aide to a teacher.  
                         I do not yet have one for next year. 
         Your January/February book assessment is due today.

2. Conventions in Sentences Investigation 
Title it: Combining to Imitate      February 12, 2015

Directions:  Combine the sentences below to create a single sentence that has the same order of sentence parts as the model.  You may eliminate some words to do so.  then write your own imitation of the model. 

Notice: 
You could combine these sentences into the MODEL sentence:
a. The children were shouting.
b. The children were screaming.
c. The children came charging back.
d. The children came into their homeroom. 

1. Copy the MODEL:  The children, shouting and screaming, came charging back into their homeroom.    -- Rosa Guy, The Friends


2.   Combine these sentences to create a single sentence that has the same order of sentence parts as the model.

           a.  The ponies were neighing.
           b.  The ponies were pawing.
           c.  The ponies came bolting out of their stalls. 

3. Create your own sentence, imitating the model.

Ms. Dorsey's imitation:

The puppies, barking and growling, came scrambling out of the doghouse.


Underline the subject of each sentence once.
Circle the verb (predicate) for each sentence. 





3. Read from The Outsiders  
B5, Page 42 ". . . you got it wrong" to page   60 "He half-dragged. . . " --Point of View
         In composition book:  Are you a Soc or a Greaser?  Why? Write 4 or 5 sentences.
         To page 60 "He half-dragged me. . . " to page 7 -- top of page.
B6, Page 41 "Cherry started walking . . . " to page -- setting to page 44 "Well, they've spotted us." to page 59, "He appeared. . . "
B7, Page 40 "You're not so smart at ten." to page 51  halfway to page 60 "He half dragged me."
