2. Play "In the Manner of the Adverb."
- Divide into two teams.
- Select a TIMER and a SCORE KEEPER from each team.
- Each team selects two players who will leave the room.
- The rest of the players for each team in the room choose from the box an adverb, one that describes how you might do something.
- If needed, they clarify the meaning of the adverb.
- The other players are called back into the room.
- If anyone from any of the teams reveals their adverb early, the team loses ten points.
- The task of the student who has been out of the room is to guess the adverb by having other players act it out. He can call up any number of players from his team, give them any scenario, and then tell them to act it out “in the manner of the adverb,” or in the style of whatever adverb they’ve chosen.
- For instance, he could call up two students and tell them to talk on the phone to each other in the manner of the adverb.
- If the adverb chosen was “chivalrously,” the two players could talk on the phone "in the manner of the adverb" by being extra courteous on their phone call, or one could pretend to pick up the phone and say something like, “Good lady, what dost thou require? Might there be some dragon that I may slay for thy fair hand?” The main goal should be to act in a way that the other player can guess the adverb.
- If the adverb is guessed within one minute, the team earns 10 points, if it takes longer, the guessers may select another activity and if they guess correctly, the team earns 5 points.
- Sample scenarios: at a party, flying a plane, taking a test, babysitting, . . .
3. Test on Prefixes and Suffixes.
(You may retake the test, if needed next Tuesday or Wednesday during cave time.)
You need to know the prefixes and suffixes, their meanings, and the parts of speech associated with the suffixes.
