"Sinister" means. . .

The Latin word for "left-handed" is "sinister.” Back in the day, people shook hands to show that they were not going to stab the person they were addressing. Since a left-handed person could shake hands and still have their strong hand available to harm the other person, they were thought of as sinister, or dangerous in a sneaky kind of way.
