Today’s Agenda Wednesday/Thursday, January 9/10, 2019:
Select your own seats again today. 1. Receive an attachment to staple to your argument essay. 2. Work on your argument essay -- with brief teacher conferences. Use your newly assigned folder and computer number. Finish your essay. Hook -- (not a question) Background information -- Somewhere in our first paragraph, let your reader know that these characters are from the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Thesis Statement (This included the claim and your two or three best reasons to support the claim.) The first Body Paragraph is about your first reason. A transition begins the topic sentence. First, Johnny Cade is innocent in the death of Robert Sheldon because he was protecting the life of his friend. Give a piece of evidence: After Ponyboy woke up from being unconscious, Johnny said, "I had to. They were drowning you. They might have killed you. And they had a blade... they were going to beat me up.... like they did before" (57). Explain how the evidence proves your reason: Johnny was right there and could see how the Socs were holding Ponyboy's head down in the fountain. Johnny knew what the Socs could do because months before a group of them had severely beaten him and left him with a scar on his face that would be there all his life. . . . (and more explanation) [Your second piece of evidence could be from what Ponyboy described about when the Socs had jumped and beaten Johnny a few months before.) |
