Announcements and Reminders Friday/Monday, February 1/4, 2019:
            Welcome to class! 
As you come in, pick up 
  • your composition book
  • and turn in your Research Questions paper if you didn't do it last time. 


Today is the last day of Penny Wars!  Contribute!  


If you have not already completed these assignments, finish and hand them in as soon as possible:


You should have finished typing your argument essay on MyAccess.   
You were to have finished it and submitted it by Friday evening, January 11.  
You may still do this. 
You are able to also work on your essay at home.


You were to hand in your packet by Monday or Tuesday, January 14 or 15.
You may still do this.  Please make sure you have completed these assignments. 
Creating an Introduction and Thesis Sentence for Argument


Also, if you have not handed in your waiver, get that signed and handed in.
Hand in your mini-bio if you haven't.

Today’s  Agenda Friday/Monday, February 1/4, 2019:


·      Welcome to class! Get out your composition notebook

·      Turn in your Research Questions paper 
           if you didn’t finish last class


Last class, you chose the person you will write about and you started researching about them. Today, we will start writing the chapter by putting together the title page and writing the introduction.


Writer’s Notebook: 
Watch a few minutes of “NINJA CATS vs DOGS - Who Wins?” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7PjyEG5-1U

Prompt: Write about either 1) a cat or dog you love, 2) a cat or dog you hate, or
3) which ninja animal would win and why.



Computer Lab 202  
Name a Google Doc “(Your Name) Chapter”
On this google doc, create a title page with:
  1.  Title that includes the person’s name and a play on words/allusion to something else
  2. By: (Your name)
  3. Tombstone that includes
    1. The person’s occupation
    2. Where and when they were born
    3. Where and when they died
    4. Age at death
  4. Picture of the person (bonus points for putting a hint in the picture!)

For the tombstone, to put text over an image:
1.     Go to Insert > Drawing… to open the Drawing window.
2.     Insert the image using either option “a” or “b”:
3.     Click the “Text Box” icon (square with a capital “T” in it) and enter your text.
4.     Realign your text as you wish for it to appear over your image.
5.     Save the image.


On the next page of the Google Doc, write a 1-2 paragraph introduction that:

  1. Introduces why that person is famous
  2. Introduces the problem/context of that person’s life—what was the world around them like?
  3. Refers to the title
  4. Gives a hint about how they died



When you are finished, go to the next page of your google doc. On this page, you will write the story of your person’s life and importance. This is like part A that we highlighted in the Galileo chapter. Don’t worry about writing part B yet—we will write it separately, then put both parts together.
