Poem: THESE are the days

Poem of the Day:

Vocabulary helps

Indian Summer:  a time in autumn when the weather changed to feel like summer again
Sophistry:  a reason or argument that sounds correct but is actually false
Plausible:  having an appearance of truth or reason, believable
Altered: changed

THESE are the days when birds come back,
A very few, a bird or two,
To take a backward look.

These are the days when skies resume
The old, old sophistries of June,        5
A blue and gold mistake.
Oh, fraud that cannot cheat the bee,
Almost thy plausibility
Induces my belief,

Till ranks of seeds their witness bear,        10
And softly through the altered air
Hurries a timed leaf!

Emily Dickinson LXXVIII.
